The 10th annual Boston Harbor Striper Shootout takes place Saturday, June 14. This charitable fishing tournament raises money for The Soldiers' Home in Chelsea, a multifaceted health care facility providing quality personal health care services to Massachusetts Veterans.

The Shootout is a spring tradition for local striper fishermen. Running from 5 am to 5 pm and limiting fishing from Cape Ann to Situate, the Shootout attracts over 50 boats whose crews compete for the $5,000 first place cash prize and nine top finisher prizes. Last year there were 30 stripers caught measuring longer than 40 inches, Team Osprey, with their 46-inch stripe bass walked away, for the second year in a row, with the top prize money.

Always an exciting tournament, it kicks off 6 pm Friday night at Admiral's Hill Marina with a captain's meeting and dinner and concludes Saturday night with an awards BBQ. A joint effort by famed local fisherman Pete Santini and Jim Jadul of Admiral's Hill Marina, Chelsea, the tournament has raised over $3,000 to benefit the 130 bed war veterans hospital in Chelsea. Last year Baseball Hall of Famer Wade Boggs joined Santini, and salt water editor and writer, Barry Gibson on Chuck DeStefano's Skip-A-Dory and Dave Sloan, On the Hook, filmed segments for his television show.
